COMMUNITIES:
Hampden and Wilbraham, located in the greater Springfield area, are suburban towns with a combined population of 19,000. Residents are employed in professional and technical careers.

SCHOOL:
School population totals 1350 students in grades 9 - 12 with 330 enrolled as seniors. The program of studies is comprehensive, preparing students for a wide range of post-secondary opportunities

The building has 293,000 square feet consisting of 93 classrooms and specialized laboratories, studios, offices, and subject core areas. The automated library includes over 25,000 volumes, electronic references, periodicals, microforms, and audio-visual materials.

85% of the staff hold Master Degrees or higher.

The guidance department consists of five full-time counselors engaged in career, academic, college, and personal counseling, two part time Adjustment Counselors and a Career Center Coordinator. The school has the services of a clinical psychologist on a consulting basis.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:
Minnechaug uses the long block schedule. All students take 8 courses per year. All classes are 85 minutes in length and are 5 credit courses. 140 credits are required to graduate. Required classes: 4 years English and Physical Education, 3 years Math, Science, and Social Studies, 1 year Applied Arts & Fine Arts.

CURRICULUM:
Honors courses are weighted equally with AP courses due to the rigorous nature of their curriculum and content.

Honors: Honors U. S. History I, Honors U. S. History II, Honors Senior Seminar, Honors Algebra 2, Honors Math Analysis, Honors Earth Science, Honors Biology, Honors Chemistry, Honors Physics, Honors Advanced Biology, Honors French 4, Spanish 4 Pre AP, Computer Science 4, Wind Ensemble and Madrigals

AP: AP Calculus AB 1, AP Calculus AB 2, AP Calculus BC 1, AP Calculus BC 2, AP Computer Science 1, AP Computer Science 2, AP English 3, AP English 4, AP Psychology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Studio Art, French AP Language, Spanish AP Language, Spanish AP Literature and Latin AP.

GRADE POINT AVERAGE and CLASS RANK INFORMATION
Grade Point Averages (GPA) are determined by assigning values (4.0, 3.0, 2.0, and 1.0) to grades (A, B, C, D) for every major course attempted. Physical Education is not included in class rank. Honors and Advanced Placement courses yield an additional 1.0 point. GPA and rank are determined at the end of each academic year.
Starting with the class of 2010, Minnechaug will modify the reporting of class rank. Grade point averages will be indicated by deciles: top 1%, top 5%, top 10%, top 20%, top 30%, top 40%, top 50%, top 60%, top 70%, top 80% and top 90%. Valedictorian and Salutatorian will be recognized at graduation.

SPECIAL ACADEMIC PROGRAMS:
Tech Prep – students are invited to explore career and college options through periodic events and field trips to Springfield Technical Community College and Holyoke Community College.

School-to-Career – includes job shadow opportunities, career speakers and internships for seniors.

Developmental Guidance – Guidance Counselors meet in groups with students to discuss pertinent information.

Career Technical Education Center (CTEC) – students may take vocational courses at the Center.
