In January 2009, the American Library Association announced the winners of the Caldecott, Newbery and other awards in children’s and young adult literature. These awards are presented to the best in their respective categories for those books published during 2008.

2009 Caldecott Medal – awarded to the illustrator of the best picture book of 2008

The House in the Night by Susan Swanson. Medal goes to illustrator Beth Krommes.

Caldecott Honor Medals were awarded to:
